Why to Visit Grand Teton's Lakes, Mountains and Forests During the Summer

Grand Teton National Park is located on the west side of Wyoming and is home to beautiful lakes, a mountain range like no other and some very unique wildlife.  Grand Teton is a perfect place for outdoor lovers to go and fish, bike, and hike amongst the amazing foliage and wildlife.  Almost 4,000,000 tourists come to Grand Teton each year in order to experience the park's glory in person.  Due to the park being in Wyoming, it isn't tourist friendly year-round because of the crazy winters and rainy seasons Wyoming can experience.  It is important to pick the right time to visit in which you can take advantage of any good spells of weather.

Why to Visit During the Summer
Weather
As previously said, the weather in Wyoming fluctuates throughout the year, while typically being the best for being outdoors during the summer.  During the winter, Grand Teton can experience over 8 feet of snow during December alone, leading to the closing of many roads and passages into the park.  In addition, winter temperatures can fall into the negatives during the night and highs are only the the low 10s or single digits.  That being said, I suggest visiting Grand Teton during the summer, preferably during the months of May, June and July.  Expect mostly sunny days with highs during the daytime in the high 70s and lows being in the 50s during the night.  During the summer, it rains on average 6 days each month from May to July so it is very manageable to plan your trip around these days.

Hiking

Grand Teton is home to over 250 miles of trails, ranging from short mile long trails great for beginners and families, to strenuous 20 mile long trails exploring the park's vast hills and valleys.  Trails great for beginners include the Taggart Lake Loop which is a 3 mile loop around the Taggart Loop and the Goodwin Lake Trail which is a 6 mile trail which is mostly pretty empty, giving you the lake all to yourself.  For more experienced hikers wanting a challenge, trails like the 20 mile Paintbrush Canyon Trail or the 11 mile Table Mountain Trail are a great fit.  The Paint Brush Canyon Trail in particular goes along many lakes, crosses many trails, and takes you up and through the Paintbrush Canyon ultimately rewarding you with some amazing views!

Fishing
As the lakes are typically iced over during the winter months up until late April, it is best to go fishing in Grand Teton National Park during the summer months of May through July.  Anglers can expect to catch various types of Lake Trout and Brook Trout, along with varieties of white fish.  For more information on the fishing requirements and laws in Grand Teton, visit the Grand Teton Fishing Website.

All in all, Grand Teton National Park is an amazing place for families and adventurers from around the world to go and visit.  During the summer months, visitors can expect pristine weather, open trails and great fishing.
