See Mount Rainier National Park in Full Bloom During the Summer
Mount Rainier National Park is located in central Washington and is America's fifth largest National Park. With over 250,000 acres of land, Mount Rainier National Park is home to hundreds of different species of animals and wildlife that are visited by nearly 2 million tourists every year. With the constantly changing weather that comes with a place located in Washington, picking the right time to visit Mount Rainier National Park is crucial.
Why to Visit During the Summer
Weather
Weather in Washington can range from below negative to over 100 degrees so it is important to plan accordingly. I recommend going during Early May or late July since the weather should be the coolest out of the summer months. Temperatures during those months usually range in the 60s or 70s and don't tend to go much higher or lower during the daytime. Be warned that if you plan on going during the winter, expect for many trails and entrances to the park to be shut down due to weather and snow.
Hiking
If you get the pleasure of visiting Rainier National Park during its peak in summer, expect some of the most beautiful hiking and scenery one can imagine. Some of the trails you can do look like something straight out of a movie! Great hikes for families or beginners include Panorama Point, Skyline, and Golden Gate Trail. If you are up to it, you can always test your luck and stamina in climbing Mount Rainier itself. This steep hike involved over 9,000 feet of elevation gain over a 10 mile long trail. However, the views at the top of Mount Rainier more than make up for the effort to takes to summit it.
Landscape
During the summer months Mount Rainier's wilderness really starts to thrive. So if you would like to experience all that this National Park has to offer, you almost are required to visit during the summer. If not, you will be missing out on hundreds of different species of wildflower that span over a half of the entire park. The aroma these flowers put into the air is so refreshing and is something I would recommend any outdoor lover to experience. A great hike to see the wildflowers I recommend is the Reflection Lakes hike which is less than a mile and totally worth it. All in all, if Mount Rainier is one of those National Parks that has been sitting on your bucket list and you are trying to figure out when to visit, try your best to go during summer. It'll be worth any traffic, parking issues, or bee stings you may have to endure.
